     Author Betty Smith’s Granddaughter will be special guest speaker 

     A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945), directed by Elia Kazan and based on Betty Smith's beloved novel, is a coming-of-age drama set in early 1900s Brooklyn. It follows young Francie Nolan as she navigates poverty, family struggles, and the bittersweet transition to adulthood, finding hope and resilience despite hardship. Celebrated for its humanity and strong performances, the film is an enduring portrait of immigrant life & perseverance.
